Flashback: Eco Airlines

One of the more less known start-up airlines to be based in Brisbane and certainly unique due to the type of aircraft they used was Eco Airlines. The airline was established in early 2005 and was due to commence flights from Brisbane to Micronesia, Kiribati and Nauru with a tech-stop in Honiara. The airline was offering all business class seating for economy prices flying a single Yakovlev Yak-42D RA-42443 leased from Russian airline Karat. The aircraft was in a combi configuration so it could transport 56 passengers and 10 tonnes of cargo simultaneously.

The airline never carried a revenue paying passenger only operating two proving flights in early February 2005. The aircraft sat idle on taxiway Papa for a month and eventually departed back to it's lessor Karat Air. There was specultation the airline would re-commence flights under the 'Oceania Airlines' brand however this failed also.
